You know how they say relationship is hard work? Well they ain't kidding. I used to think that as long as two people like each other, it's all good because love would prevail and triumph over everything else.
While hollywood (and arts in general) often portray love as the almighty powerful force that is stronger than God, in reality, it never works like that. There are always some other determining factors.
Like for example, if Romeo and Juliet are in the real world, love didn't win that battle, they are freaking dead. If the media caught Romeo and Juliet's suicide on the headline, they won't call it "Love Triumphs All', they'd probably call it 'Idiotic teens' suicide pact'
Similiarly the love story in Titanic, sure Hollywood like to play on the whole Jack and Rose story, class system, artistic and different guy. But if it's real, the headlines would not be 'Guy stay in the water so the girl will not die from hypothermia and her heart will go on', it's gonna be 'Survivor found among a sea of dead people'
It's true, it's more shocking, it gives them viewership. While Hollywood (and people in general) love the whole aspect of Love in movies and other media (more on that next time), in the real world, other factors are often more appealing.
Showing pictures of someone dying is far more effective than wedding pictures, especially if they are famous. They say love can unite people, but let's be honest here, after 9/11, USA was united by grief, not by the love they shared towards their beloved president.
Andy out!
