Ah first day of uni!

Isn't that great? All you freshmen have now get past your horrific high school experience and welcome to the world of academia. The University (or College if you're american...seriously, speak proper english) is a place where all your dreams and wishes can come true, like a genie, you can be an environmental lawyer (good luck on that), or a mathematician (seriously get a life), or a professional musician (wait...you went to uni for that?)

But no, really. First day of uni is great, so many new people, they all filled with their little hopes and dreams, all waiting to be crushed by reality of not getting a good enough grade. University is like that you know, even if you were previously the smartest of your school, at uni you're nobody, nobody cares whether you're there or not. Because as far as we're concerned, you're just like everyone else, we've all seen this before, you're just the same as the ones from last year, and the year before that, and the year before that...

Ultimately we've all grown into something more experienced, we found new dreams, achievable dreams and more realistic goals. We discovered new interests, make new friends, we change, we adapt...

And by the time we graduate (if you ever get to that stage), we've gone through the whole life changing experience, you're no longer the same kid who went to uni years ago, but even at that point, no one cares that you're leaving, no one cares that you don't go to uni anymore, you become part of something much much bigger, the real world where you're still a nobody...

Now isn't academia (and the real world) depressing? And you thought high school was bad.

Andy out!
