Day by day he watched her. Day by day he moved farther away. Finally, he was out of sight and sound from her.
“Until we meet again,” he whispered.
She was quite unaware of him however; keeping her distance from others happened to be what she did best. Everyday she grew older. Her shut-in lifestyle chained her spirit to her home, and her soul to her daily tasks.
He, on the other hand, was a traveler, constantly moving around and exploring new places; never knowing what dangers were afoot was his idea of life. His soul and spirit constantly soared and explored the new air that would pass through his lungs.
It had been a while since he first seen the woman, but as soon as he saw her, he knew that she was different. He observed what she did and how it was the same, but different, everyday.
“One day,” he decided, “I will talk to this woman and ask her it.”
About a year or so has passed, and the two are farther away than ever, in mind at least. The man had had an accident which caused what is now properly known as amnesia. Everyday he feels as though he is missing a part of himself, and not knowing it, he is approaching the house of one who holds his opposing half. Just as light cannot exist without darkness, so love cannot exist without hate. Without the other half of himself, he does not truly realize the importance and potential of the part he holds; he simply uses it to the best of what he knows.
As he passes the first house for miles, he sees a woman outside watering her plants. Needless to say, he sparks up a conversation with her. She seems different than most people. Talking warmly even though she does not say much, as if she does not want to talk to anyone.
Intrigued by her shut away self, he, being a nomad at heart, asks the woman a question that he asks many of the people he meets.
“What do you think home is?” he posed.
Her reply was simply, “Wherever I think myself comfortable to be.”
Never before had he heard such an answer to his question that was so full of possibilites, yet so simple. Upon hearing this, he knew. This woman, seemingly the opposite of him held the other part to his heart that had set him on his worldly travels. Within herself, she knew that her home was wherever she was, and was just as cozy staying in one spot as she could be anywhere else. They talked for a while longer and it was the woman’s turn to ask a question.
“Where are you from?” she inquired.
The man took a few long moments before answering. When he did though, it came out as simply as if he had been asked the question many a time.
“It is not where I am from that is of importance, but where I will go.”
She stopped watering and felt something within her change. At that moment, they both fully realized the importance of each other’s answers. In finding each other, they had found themselves, and in that awaited the greatest adventure of all.
