Why did I do it? I'll tell you why. I have no idea. That's why. I can't take it back so what difference does it make. The past is like a butterfly caught in amber. You can look at it. You can admire it. But you can't change it. Of course, we don't all have butterflies to look back on. Sometimes we have rats. Yes, that's a different story. No one wants to look back on a rat trapped in amber, but there are rat moments in most of our lives, especially if we live to ripe old ages. I never liked the sound of that, by the way. Ripe old age? Sounds like my skin will be getting all brown like a banana that is going bad. I never want to be that ripe, but I may not have much say in the matter. Anyway, getting back to rat moments, don't pretend you haven't experienced them. They come in two ways. First, someone else is a rat and uglies up your life. Second, you are the rat and you ugly up somebody else's life. Both are bad, and both get trapped in the amber of the past forever. The most we can do is try to let go of what others have done to us and make right what we have done to others. It's not always easy to make things right, though, to the people we wrong. When you absolutely can't then you can do what I do. Make things right with someone you never wronged in the first place. Do a kindness for someone you know or don't know. Put a little beauty back in your life. Create some butterfly moments to look back on. Butterflies in amber can no longer fly, but they can still delight us with their beauty.
