Mr. Homer “Dutchman” Powell, age 60 of Mt. Vernon, died Tuesday
November 10, 2009 in the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon after an extended illness. He was a native of Wheeler County, and moved to Mt. Vernon in 1970. He retired from Reeves Construction Company of Mt. Vernon as a truck driver after thirty-six years of service, and was well known as the “Dutchman”. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Otis Powell and Daisy E. Weeks Powell.
Mr. Powell is survived by his wife, Kathy Duncan Powell of Mt. Vernon, four sons, Shane Powell of Reidsville; Sean Powell of Higgston, Shad Powell, and Thad Powell both of Mt. Vernon, two sisters, Zora Kirby of Glenwood; and Susie Carey of Mt. Vernon, five brothers, Neal Powell of Glenwood; Ralph Powell of Glenwood; James “Doc” Powell of Mt. Vernon; Elmo Powell of Normantown; and Eddie Powell of Mt. Vernon, nine grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 13th at 3:00 pm in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Randall Gibbs officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 7:00 until 9:00.
