Oh, okay the volcanic eruptions and the earthquakes. Yes I did read about both of those. But we felt nothing here. Not infrequently we've had earthquakes and tremors here. It can be quite scary driving during an earthquake. It feels like the road is givng way under you. Imagine driving on jelly and that's pretty much how it feels. Our home was designed to resist earthquakes (by two archistects, both Baha'is, one English and the other Persian); but it can nevertheless be a scary experience when the house starts shaking and everything clanks around.
Prabably the best thing to do when you're at home during a quake is to quickly find a large and sturdy table to crawl under. That's actually one of Laely's many such tips. We have a table that's perfect for that purpose, although we've never actually scrambled under it when there's been a quake--probably because of the suddeneess of it. We're renovating our home right now, but usually I would be sitting at it as I write.

Yeah, they have since cancelled that alert, but it did give us all a bit a scare for a while, with memories of the previous tsunami here still relatively fresh in the minds of many, especially of course the families of those who lost their lives.
There have been quite a few earthquakes in the South West Pacific region recently (Samon, Sumatra). While earthquakes are not unusual, the occurence of a number of large oness in close succession like this does give some cause for concern.
