grin. I was on an academic email list once. I have worked for medical doctors specialised in research and for professors and lecturers in a university. The amount of emotion on that list and in meetings was quite high.
That taught me a thing or two about academics and the academic approach.... ;o) quite often i find there is a LOT of ego involved in so called academic discussions.
Yes I think the Baha'i Academic Resource Library is a fine legitimate resource and use it myself for quite some time...
You have to understand though that it is an "Academic" resource and not an official Baha'i site, i.e., it is not sponsored by any official Baha'i body.
So you will find references to Covenant Breaker materials but only with an academic interest...so there are critiques in there from various angles.
Maybe one good thing yet to come out of all the current trouble is a better understanding of what the concept of freedom truly means. While surfing the web, I was reminded of this after running upon this persons exclamation to Let Freedom Ring
Let Freedom Ring
may its meaning be known
leaving no margin for uncertainty
about the value of freedom for all
As freedom continues to evolve, may we learn to appreciate its value to all!
"Yet it is good to develop an academical approach to religious studies, but it seems to me that the best approach would be one which is actually a completely new approach, which has traces of the old academic approach, but is new. Very hard to do when you are studying and writing papers or a thesis, because your teachers expect you to follow the standard academic approach. Maybe that is why I have not yet gone into university."
Maybe ...we should turn this around and say that for the very reasons you cited...You should be in the university!
You have a deep well thought our perspective that should be shared... I would suggest you might discuss your views and plans informally with a wise academic and see what they would advise...
